The eclectic mix of bits in this picture represent just a small example of some of the rudimentary components I use to build my boats. The main element is sheet steel from various tin cans for the hulls and also old clocks for the motors as well as just about anything with gears inside. There is quite a bit of processing involved before I can actually start to build but thats part of the fun , to take  common disposable things and turn them into working diving submarines is immensely satisfying , especially when I can have fun playing with them. Whilst the era of these toys has long since passed I find them as fascinating now as I did when I was a kid.
