31/12/2018   U48.  15".    Screw Cap.   Drum Motor.    Tinplate Clockwork Diving Submarine.

U48 has a two plate top and base type hull, the superstructure is the same as my old 6 plate hulls which is why its got such a big nose.

The keyhole is stopped with a screw cap which is a far more sturdy arrangement than the rubber bungs. The motor is a powerful drum affair and drives a 3 blade 30mm anticlockwise prop. U48 is not fitted with a ballast tank but sits level in the drink, surface or diving runs are simply selected by using the fore and aft planes. During angles and dangles its proved to be a spectacular performer and looks cool too, I enjoyed making it almost as much as eating the biscuits in the tin its made from!
